WEEGEE MIMIC

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

This is my mimic of the great photographer, weegee. In weegees photos everything is in black and white. He focuses his attention to injury, death, and murder. Thank goodness one of our classmates had a shattered ankle. This allowed me to quickly get the perfect photo and start editing it in photo shop to get the black and white, and the stand out effect of the leg.

WEEGEE Photography

by: Mark Cruickshank

Weegee, otherwise known as Arthur Fellig was a photographer in the 1930's and 40's. He was born on June 12, 1899 in the Lower East Side of New York City. He had always had a touch for photography. He focused as a press photographer and was known for his black and white street photographer. He seemed to focus on the emergency crew of New York and followed them around.

Weegee took many photos of murders. He also took many photos of people who were deceased and just like the photo below of people dead on the side of the road. This said person had been shot and stabbed. When the ambulance got there to help document the murder they first placed a white blanket to cover up the man so that pedestrians driving by didn't have to see who was underneath it. This was the perfect opportunity for weegee to get a photo. He had great timing to get the two cars in the back, one black and one white. As well as the passenger in the black car is looking at the scene. Of coarse the feet have the best focus, which is why this photo is so great.

The next big topic that Weegee photographed was about the sick and injured. In the photo below it is of and injured and very sick person who had been in bed rest to get better and hasn't. The illness had progressed and the person had obviously gone crazy. They crew of assassins were then sent in to prosecute the person in the dark. The photo shows 2 people with a sort of paper in a cone shape covering their head. The ill person is laying on the bed and begging for the prosecutors not to kill him/her.

In this photo by Weegee it is of a huge crowd from somewhere on a beach. There are many people on the beach. It looks sort of like a party or a concert because otherwise there wouldn't be as many people on the beach. The people wouldn't be able to swim or even move. Some people are looking at the camera and others are just simply not. They probably cant see Weegee and they probably didnt even know they were in the photo taken by the all great Weegee. Even if they looked in the news to try and find themselves, there are so many people they would have no chance.

Overall Weegee was a great photographer who took photos of murders, injuries, and worldwide known events. He became very well know through his photos. He is still well known throughout today's photo world. Even when he died on December 26th, 1968. Many people have tried to copy his work as I will have to.

PhotoGram

Photo Gram

In a photo gram you place random object onto a piece of photo paper and turn the lightbox on for around 15 seconds. then you have to develop the paper. Wherever you had a sold object it will be white, and anything clear but still and object will be grey. My favourite one is the small photogram, its the top one in the photo, this one took me a few tries to get right and I put the most amount of time into it. So that is why its my favourite.

Silk Screen

Jetta Shirt

This is my silk screen. This is also my marketable object. To do a silk screen you musk make a super tight canvas of silk, sort of like making a canvas to paint on. You then put emulsion on the canvas. You get a photo copy of the photo you want, and put all of it on a light box for 20mins. Then remove emulsion from screen. Parts that were exposed to light will not  come off the screen. You can then use paint to stick it to whatever you want.

It is my marketable project because you can sell a shirt to the public for around 20$.

Toronto Project

"The New Toronto"

The reason I took this photo during our classes Toronto field trip. Theses bikes are able to be rented for a certain amount of money. You put your credit car into the pay booth and it will unlock one of the bikes for you. The longer you rent the bike out for the more money it will put onto your credit card. To return the bike you can go to any of the bike stations around town and click it into place. It will then stop tallying the time and will print a receipt.

These are quite neat and show the Greater Toronto Area growing its way to become more green. This shows that people are also being green because there is a bike missing. These bikes don't cost too much to rent either. They are quite cheap so that people will use them over spending time and money on gas for a car. Especially with all the traffic in the downtown area of Toronto  Most of the gas in the downtown cores's cars are being used while in idle while in traffic.

Acrylic Lift

This is my acrylic lift. I took a photo of my Volkswagen logo and printed it out. I did 3 layers with the white goo. Then I did a layer of gold/yellow. 3 more layers of white goo after that. Then a layer of black/grey. After that black layer I did another layer of clear and another layer of gold/yellow. Then to finish it off I did one last layer of white/clear. I peeled all the tape off and cut out the border so that it would be only the acrylics. I wiped all the paper off and this is the final product.

Breaking The Rules

"I'm hungry, all the sudden"
Here I am breaking the rules with not using a flash when there is no light. This is to show the true colors and not any of the colors that would have been enhanced by a flash.

"Grilled"
Here I am breaking the Rules by using a flash while the light s are on there is chrome reflecting back. this also creates a lot of dark spots on the grille, many flashes as well.

"So Shiny, Lighted"
Here I am breaking the rules by using a flash in the bright daylight to get shine off of places I normally wouldn't  and to make it so there are almost no dark spots.

Mixed Lighting

Light Types: Sun, Studio
Shutter Speed: 1/500
Aperture: f/20
In this photo I tried to get some shine off the wheels and the quarter panels of the car. This shows studio light on the rims and sun on the body of the car.

Light Types: Sun, Flash
Shutter Speed: 1/1000
Aperture: f/16
I tried using a flash to get some shine on all the chrome, but use the sun to get the light in the rear tail lights. The exhaust tip and the rims shine nice with the flash, not to much but enough to make them stand out.

Light Types: Sun, Reflector
Shutter Speed: 1/250
Aperture: f/12
I used a reflector to get the whole of the car, it did make a bit if a shadow because the light was dulled, this shows the glare in the rims but not as much on the body from the light. the sun still hit the bumper of the car and made a bit of a shine there but that's just nature.

Different Light Portraits + 3 Fav Portraits

AMBIENT LIGHT PORTRAIT - FAV 1
I like this photo because it is very well shot and it makes ask questions, such as how can one look so beautiful and how can the light accent her so well. I would recreate this photo by finding a really hot girl and bringing her to a house and taking photos, with all the lights on.

NATURAL LIGHT PORTRAIT - FAV 2
I like this photo because it makes me question on how natural light can bring out such a bright blue in the females shirt and yet add such a nice shadow around her sides. I could recreate this photo by finding another beautiful girl and taking photos out side in a green park.

STUDIO LIGHT PORTRAIT - FAV 3
I like this photo because it really makes me wonder how you can really photograph someone as well as this photographer does, it makes me really want to take more photos like this. I could recreate this photo by finding another beautiful girl and taking her to a studio and have all the lights off, but 1 studio light still on.

Light Painting

In this I show the movement of a light to cover more that what one light would show.
5 Second Shutter Speed
In this photo we show the movement of a light source to show different lines in mid-air
10 Second Shutter Speed
In this photo I'm trying to show the same person in two different places with flashing a light and then letting a person move while the light is off, once they are ready you flash them again with the light to show the movement.

Studio Lighting

D700
shutter speed: 10/1250
f-stop: f/4.5
- In this photo I asked everybody to turn all the lights off and had a lower set defused light that allowed Kai's arm and chin to get highlighted. This created a creepy glow and really shows what cameras are capable of capturing.
D700
shutter speed: 10/250
f-stop: f/5
 - In this photo I tried to have a nice shadow on the wall and on Kai's face. The light was not defused, but set farther back. The light was a bit above the height of Kai's head. This create a chill sort of mellow mood that makes his hair look darker.
D700
Shutter speed: 10/500
f-stop: f/5.5
 - In this photo I have the same light setup as the one above, but I changed the angle of the camera, and defused the light. This made it so there was not as much of a shadow on Kai's face but still set a sort of creepy mood with the shadow on the wall.

The Mona Kalisa

The Mona Lisa was done by a very well known artist, Leanordo Divinci, this is probobly the most famous painting ever to be put up in a museum.

The photo that I took was of my buddy Kai. I asked him to make a funny face to add a bit of flare to the mix up.

The Mona Kalisa was from the face of my photo and the rest from thefamous Mona Lisa, It is in my personal view a great photo, I dont know if it is because my buddy madea a funny face or if since he is a guy, and he has long hair. Either way I like the photo a lot and it even shows.

The mona lisa is more so possibly the most well-known piece of painted artwork in the entire world. It was painted by the leonardo davinci, the famous Italian artist, around 1519, and is a half body commission for a woman named lisa gherardini. Her husband, francisco del giocondo requested the work by da vinci just after the turn of the century. It is perhaps the most studied piece of artwork ever known. The subjects facial expression has brought about a source of debate for centuries, as her face remains largely enigmatic in the portrait. Originally commissioned in Italy, it is now at home in the French Republic, and hangs on display in the Louvre in Paris.

M.Cruickshank Letters

This is my name in many different areas around my school.
I found all these letters and had to find a way to turn the camera to get the right angle and view.
This spells out my whole name.

Susan E. Benson - Favorite Photographer

http://benphoto.com/energy.html
This has to be my Favorite Photographer
Susan E. Benson is her name.
Susan Is a very good artist and seems to always been in the right place at the right time. She knows what would make nice contrasted photos and always seems to have her camera with her when she takes them. This is a really dedicated photographer and she has all my due respects. If she gets photos of burning flames and smoke coming out of high risers, she can do anything. Her Fire photos are magnificent.
Here is an example of her photos:
